SOPAD: Solidarity for the Promotion of Sustainable Agriculture

The SOPAD was the result of pooling resources between three organizations wishing to collaborate to pursue common goals and operating in the same sector, primarily promoting sustainable agriculture by youth and women. To effectively achieve their common objectives and establish a value chain, the consortium's member organizations have set up a framework for collaboration and professional guidance.

The consortium's goal is to help its members transition from the informal sector to formal operations, moving from artisanal to industrial practices.

The consortium financed the establishment of the COPAD cooperative and the formalization of youth and women groups. It organizes capacity-building sessions on agricultural techniques and the practical application of these techniques in households. It also funds the creation of model fields and the dissemination of seeds.

The consortium financed the purchase of equipment and materials for the community group of the 'Batwa' in Kiganda.

For the SOPATRAM processing unit, the consortium supports the unit and the benefiting youth in agro-food processing techniques and quality control by guiding them in administrative and financial management procedures as well as hygiene and phytosanitary standards.

As for the TWINAGURE association, the consortium helps organize groups of women entrepreneurs, single mothers, and out-of-school young girls to establish training and vocational programs. It participates in providing startup capital to various groups organized around income-generating activities and includes a program for the social reintegration of girls and women rejected by society.
