Who are we?

The SOPAD is a non-profit association managing three organizations with a common goal.

Elle résulte de l’évolution d’une organisation qui a débuté ses activités en 1996 au Burundi, à l’idée de Madame Claudette NDUWAYEZU. Elle agit actuellement conformément au protocole d’entente entre la COPAD Cooperative, qui se spécialise dans le développement et l’exploitation agricole, la SOPATRAM, une société  spécialisée dans la transformation des produits alimentaires ainsi que le Centre de Formation TWINAGURE, un centre ayant pour objectif l’encadrement entrepreneuriale des jeunes et des femmes. L’organisation SOPAD est enregistrée au Burundi sur Ordonnance Ministérielle n°530/1266 du 09 Mars 2023. SOPAD est aussi enregistrée au CANADA sous le N° d’Entreprise : (NEQ) 1175677971 à l’adresse 305-520 bvd. de la Côte-Vertu Montréal (Québec) H4L1X9 – Québec – Canada 

SOPAD/Canada accompagne SOPAD/Burundi dans l’exécution de sa mission basée essentiellement sur la création d’emploi, l’autonomisation des jeunes et des femmes par le biais de l’agriculture durable.

SOPAD/Canada joue le rôle de représentation, de lobbying and de plaidoirie. Elle offre aussi un appui logistique pour les activités exécutées par SOPAD/Burundi.

SNV – PADANE

From transitioning from the informal to the formal sector, from artisanal to industrial, the journey of SOPATRAM, a processing unit initiated by Solidarity for the Promotion of Sustainable Agriculture - SOPAD, serves as a concrete example of progress. With financial support from the Dutch Development Organization SNV through the Agricultural Development Support for Nutrition and Entrepreneurship Project - PADANE, SOPAD was able to access resources for acquiring specialized equipment dedicated to the production of passion fruit juice. This transition represents a crucial step in modernizing the activity, demonstrating a commitment to sustainable transformation and economic growth within the agricultural sector.

SEGAL FAMILY FOUNDATION

In an effort to encourage and support sustainable agricultural development in Burundi, the Segal Family Foundation recently allocated funding to Solidarity for the Promotion of Sustainable Agriculture - SOPAD. This initiative has had a significant impact, especially for the youth involved in the collection and production of passion fruit within the COPAD cooperative, a project initiated and supported by the SOPAD Organization. Additionally, the Segal Family Foundation has provided support for the communication strategy of the SOPAD Organization, highlighting and showcasing projects initiated by and for the youth.

It's never too late!!! My name is Francine Nibigira; I attended training sessions in agri-food processing techniques organized by SOPATRAM. Today, I master the entire process of making passion fruit, pineapple, hibiscus juices, etc. I also know the blending ratios for making mixed juices. Since I learned, through these training sessions, how to make fortified porridge flour, I feel ready to engage in the fight against malnutrition that is rampant in our neighborhoods...

MY SECOND CHANCE!!!

I felt a heavy burden on my shoulders every morning; I had just given birth to my daughter Gaëlla, and life seemed to be suffocating me. My nights of sleep had become a nightmare, thinking I wouldn't see the light of the next dawn. The early hours of the day always started with despair. I had confused my grave with my reason to live until I met Madame Claudette Nduwayezu, ... the good Samaritan for me.
